5 Pin PS2 Joystick Control Module

The Dual-Axis Joystick Module is a compact and versatile input device designed for Arduino, microcontroller, robotics, and DIY electronics projects. It consists of two 10KΩ potentiometers and an integrated tactile push-button switch, providing X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis control in a single module.

The two potentiometers respond to the movement of the joystick and generate corresponding voltage values for the X and Y axes. When the joystick is pressed downward along the Z-axis, the integrated tactile switch is triggered, providing an additional digital input.

Thanks to its mechanical structure, when the joystick is in its natural position without external force, both potentiometers remain approximately at the middle of their respective measurement ranges. This makes the module easy to calibrate and suitable for applications requiring directional and analog position control.

The joystick can be connected to a microcontroller’s analog and digital input pins to detect movement and button presses. It is commonly used for robot control, game controllers, remote-control projects, camera positioning systems, industrial equipment, and interactive electronic devices.

Key Features

  • Dual-axis analog joystick with X, Y, and Z-axis control
  • Built-in two 10KΩ potentiometers
  • Integrated tactile push-button switch
  • X/Y joystick movement provides corresponding analog voltage outputs
  • Push the joystick downward to activate the Z-axis button
  • Center position provides approximately mid-range output from both potentiometers
  • Compact design for easy integration into electronic projects
  • Suitable for Arduino and other microcontroller platforms
  • Simple interface for analog and digital signal processing

Applications

The PS2 Joystick Control Module can be used in a wide range of applications, including:

  • Arduino and microcontroller projects
  • DIY game controllers
  • Robot and RC vehicle control
  • Pan-and-tilt camera systems
  • Robotic arms
  • Crane and machinery control
  • Industrial control equipment
  • Wheelchair control systems
  • Remote-controlled devices
  • Educational and STEM projects
  • Embedded electronic devices

Joystick-style controls are widely used as human-machine interfaces for controlling the angle, direction, or movement of equipment. In addition to gaming applications, joystick technology can be found in cranes, trucks, remotely operated underwater vehicles, wheelchairs, surveillance cameras, and zero-turn-radius lawn mowers. Miniature joysticks are also used as input devices in compact electronic products.

The Dual-Axis Joystick Module provides a simple, reliable, and cost-effective solution for adding multi-directional analog control and push-button input to electronic and embedded systems.

Signal Operation

The X and Y axes output analog signals according to the ps2 joystick control module movement direction and position, with an output value ranging from 0 to 1023 when used with a typical 10-bit ADC.

The Z axis is controlled by the integrated push-button. It outputs a HIGH level in the default released state. When the joystick is pressed downward, the output changes to LOW. When the joystick is released, the output returns to HIGH.

With its PH2.0 5-pin connector and flexible mounting options, the Dual-Axis Joystick Module is suitable for Arduino, microcontroller, robotics, game controller, remote-control, and other DIY electronics applications.
